        Meet Principal Bachelor

A Visionary Leader, Transformative Educator, and Champion for Lifelong Learning

Dr. Samuel Bachelor is a dynamic and purpose-driven educational leader whose career reflects an unwavering commitment to transforming lives through learning. With over 18 years of experience spanning traditional schools, turnaround programs, alternative education, virtual learning, and adult education, Dr. Bachelor has become a driving force in creating inclusive, future-ready environments that meet the needs of all learners.

A proud graduate of LeMoyne-Owen College, Dr. Bachelor went on to earn a master’s degree from Union University, followed by both an Education Specialist and Doctoral degree from Freed-Hardeman University. Armed with both academic excellence and a heart for service, he has cultivated a reputation as a visionary leader who balances high expectations with deep empathy and a belief in the potential of every individual.
As the founding principal of Memphis Virtual Adult High School, Dr. Bachelor is redefining what it means to offer second chances. Under his leadership, the school has become a beacon of hope and opportunity, helping more than 400 adult learners earn their high school diplomas within just three years. His innovative leadership has empowered countless adults to rewrite their stories—often while balancing jobs, families, and other responsibilities—proving that it is never too late to achieve your dreams.
Dr. Bachelor is also a recognized expert in Social Emotional Learning (SEL), having published two peer-reviewed journal articles and authoring a forthcoming book that provides educators with actionable strategies for implementing SEL in the classroom. He is a firm believer that emotional intelligence is not an accessory to academic success—but a foundation for it.
Beyond his professional work, Dr. Bachelor is a man of faith, integrity, and perseverance. He is happily married to the Honorable Judge Taylor Bachelor, who currently presides over General Sessions Criminal Court Division 7. Together, they serve the city of Memphis with humility and a shared commitment to justice, education, and community empowerment.
Whether leading schools, mentoring educators, or advocating for lifelong learning, Dr. Samuel Bachelor remains steadfast in his mission: to help individuals discover and walk boldly in their God-given potential..
